Trail Overview

Big Woods is an easy to traverse gravel/dirt road. It runs for about 8.5 miles in the Sam Houston National Forest. About halfway down, there's a nice hunters' camp that's part of the Sam Houston Wild Life Management Area, so you will need a permit to camp there. The Southern end can get slippery if it's wet; just drive slow and take in the beauty of the forest, listen to the birds chirping, take a hike on the Lonestar Hiking Trail or jump on the Texas Traverse and have an adventure.

Big Woods Rd was open n a pleasant drive . Lots of pot holes n a little muddy today due to recent rain . Some falling trees here n there but nothing obstructed. Good scenery n nice views . Lots of people camping in sites available.
