Trail Overview

This trail will take you through a peaceful, scenic route and up-close views of oil rigs. A lot can be learned here regarding these oil rigs and how they work. You will also encounter lots of wildlife; if you are into birdwatching, this is a perfect place. Fishing is allowed but absolutely no camping. This trail is open during the day and closes at sunset.

Difficulty

Any AWD, 2WD or 4x4 can make it through this trail. There are no technical areas whatsoever. The entire road is loose gravel and airing down is not necessary.

History

This area belongs to the Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. This entire trail has oil rigs that are meant to drive up to and look at it.

Roads are dry & dusty, mostly gravel, but there are plenty of opportunities to view wildlife! Open roads are marked, and there is an audio-guided auto tour at the Refuge Visitor Center if interested. You can drive right next to working oil rigs while also watching ducks. TMobile 5G service the whole trip.
