Trail Overview

Street Legal, 4WD, High Clearance vehicles only. Las Burras is a nice out-and-back, past three designated camp sites, and ends at a dry creek bed. This two-track starts near the Nopalera Hiking Trailhead and wanders downhill most of its stretch while crossing multiple dry creek beds.

Difficulty

During heavy rains, do not cross the creek beds. Give the water a couple of hours to subside, then continue with caution. This narrow two-track does not have many turnouts for oncoming traffic, and leaving the road surface will result in tire damage.

This trail is currently rated a 2/10. This trail needs to be rated at LEAST a 3/10 and most likely should be 4/10. I’ve been across hundreds of trails across the western part of the country using the OnX rating system and this is by far more difficult than a 2/10.

Fun trail, stayed out at Las Burras 3. Timed it twice and averaged 1hr20min one way from the campground to the main park road (Agua Adentro Pens). I pulled a 14ft Timberleaf Classic trailer with off-road package. Only needed my rear lockers 1 time to pull the trailer over a 2-3 ft step with a pretty good incline. There is also a section with 2 boulders that makes for a tight squeeze with a trailer in tow. It's a slow road so give yourself plenty of time. Averaged 6mph without a trailer and about 3mph with the trailer. There are some sharp boulders that are embedded but most punctures would happen with the vegetation so definitely stay on the road. The road past the Las Burras campsite is not traveled much and is more over grown. Big shrubs and cactus growing in the center strip between the tire tracks. Not many places to pull off and let someone pass. You will leave with desert pinstripes
