Trail Overview

Ausley Way Bypass (V6) is a technical off-road route located in the southwestern portion of Escondido Draw Recreation Area that provides an easier alternative around the most difficult sections of Ausley Way. The surrounding terrain is extremely rugged, with large boulders, steep uphill sections, and loose, rocky surfaces throughout the area. While this bypass allows drivers to avoid some of the biggest obstacles on the main trail, it is still intended for highly capable off-road vehicles and should not be considered an easy route. Access to the trail requires traveling through other off-road trails within the park before reaching this remote section.

Difficulty

Ausley Way Bypass (V6) is a difficult rock-crawling route with steep terrain, large rocks, boulders, and uneven surfaces that require careful tire placement. Although it is the easier alternative to the main Ausley Way trail, a highly capable four-wheel-drive vehicle with low-range gearing, high ground clearance, vehicle protection, and appropriate recovery equipment is recommended. Stock and lightly modified vehicles are not recommended for this section.
