Trail Overview

Upper Tremont Road is an easy gravel route that follows the scenic Middle Prong Little River through Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The well-maintained road offers a relaxing drive with gentle grades and beautiful river views for much of its length. Numerous pull-off areas provide opportunities to stop and enjoy the surrounding scenery, including several waterfalls visible from or near the roadway. The trail is generally two lanes wide, making it comfortable to navigate, though drivers will encounter a single-lane bridge along the route. Minor potholes and small washouts may be present but do not significantly affect drivability. Several hiking trailheads with dedicated parking areas are located along the road, making this a popular destination for both hikers and scenic motorists. Upper Tremont Road ends at the Middle Prong Trailhead, where ample parking is available before continuing on foot. Overall, this is a peaceful and highly scenic drive suitable for visitors of all experience levels.
