Trail Overview

Jake’s Branch Road is a two-way gravel road that connects from RBS13 to Howard H. Baker Highway. The road is wide and has plenty of room for vehicles to pass, making it one of the easier connector routes in this area. The surface is mostly gravel with a few dips along the way, but there are no serious obstacles through most of the route. The main obstacle is a creek crossing located not far past the intersection with RBS13. Drivers should check the crossing before entering, especially after heavy rain, since water depth and current can change quickly. In normal conditions, this crossing should be manageable for most high-clearance vehicles, but wet weather may make the approach slick or washed out. Near the creek crossing, there is a place to pull over and enjoy the area. A fallen tree stretches across the creek and makes a good place to sit, relax, or take a lunch break while listening to the water. This is the best stopping point along the route and adds some scenic value to an otherwise easy gravel road. Jake’s Branch Road ends at a gate for the elk hunting area. Do not continue past the gate by vehicle. From this point, visitors may continue on foot to explore the area, as long as access is allowed and all posted rules are followed. Watch for seasonal hunting activity and respect all gates, signs, and land-use restrictions.
