Trail Overview
Horse Creek - FS 94 received significant maintenance in July 2026. Multiple portions of the trail were widened and graded, smoothing the previously rocky terrain. This has reduced the trail difficulty as well as the time to complete it. Given how new several of these sections are, the clay is uncompacted, soft, and likely to change quickly with weather and high levels of traffic. Access from the recreation area/parking lot follows alongside the cool mountain waters of Horse Creek. There are several locations suitable for dispersed camping. The trail tightens back up, becoming more narrow approaching the switchbacks with a few rock obstacles near the summit. Horse Creek retains its scenic beauty, which includes multiple creek crossings with short waterfalls and a stunning view near the top at the Overlook. Horse Creek connects to Big Butt (FSR 94A) at the summit, just past the overlook.
