Trail Overview
Forest Service Road 401 is a very short but fairly technical descent toward the shoreline of Kentucky Lake. The trailhead is marked, intersects with FSR 230 or Fort Henry Road, and descends to the west and south. A beautifully wooded landscape shows a bit of use on this trail. The trail consists of some washouts, ruts, and mudholes that aren't overly difficult but a great practice section to build up to more difficult obstacles. This is a good run for beginners to run solo, work on picking lines, and discover how different decisions can affect the vehicle, handling the terrain without getting into too much trouble. There is also a cemetery off to the side of this trail for those who enjoy that sort of adventure. The cemetery is fenced off with signage reminding us how to respect and preserve these areas. LBL is full of these cemeteries, and they can be interesting places to visit and soak in the history of this place.
