Trail Overview

This stretch of the iconic Macon County Tour offers a scenic drive through gently rolling hills and a patchwork of open farmland, blending rural charm with a few rugged elements. The road is primarily gravel, interrupted by a very brief paved connector that leads into a striking elevation change--complete with a steep drop-off to one side and wide valley views that make for excellent photo ops. Several washouts can be found along the way, especially after rain, so drivers should stay alert and travel at a controlled pace. The trail passes close to private homes and farmland, with posted "No Trespassing" signs marking property boundaries. It's important to stay on the designated route and drive respectfully through these stretches. Difficulty

This segment of the Macon County Tour (MCT) is generally easy to navigate but does present a few terrain-related challenges. Expect multiple washouts, narrow sections with no shoulders, and steep drop-offs in certain areas. While the gravel road is manageable for most 4WD and high-clearance 2WD vehicles, careful driving is recommended--especially through the more exposed and uneven stretches.
