Trail Overview
Merritt 42 is an easier single track in the Merritt Trail System near Rapid City, South Dakota. From the north entrance, it gradually goes downhill for 1.7 miles, with a few steep rockier spots, and small uphills as well. It flows over the small rolling hills with embedded roots and rocks, and loose chunky rocks in the middle of the trail. There are ruts and braided lines during the climbs sometimes as well. It has lots of chill flowy sections as well and it rides along little ridgelines. The last descent down to Road 6208 is steep. It's a fun ride and is really close to the staging area off Silver City Road, so you'll likely see other riders. It's a good warm-up to your ride through the Merritt Trail area, and can easily be connected to several other SXS trails, forest roads, and other single tracks.
Difficulty
This is an easier single track because although it has some steep spots and embedded rocks, it has no significant obstacles, and should be rideable by most riders with a basic level of experience.
