Trail Overview

This trail offers a fun challenge for drivers looking to test their skills without being overly difficult. There are several sections with loose rocks that require slower speeds and careful tire placement. You'll also encounter rocks approaching 12 inches tall in the center of the trail, so a high-clearance vehicle is recommended to avoid undercarriage damage. There are a number of rutted sections that can become muddy and significantly more challenging during the wet season or after spring snowmelt. Keep in mind that the trail is seasonally closed from December 15 through May 15 to help protect the trail during the thaw. One of the highlights of this route is a steep, rocky climb that provides a fun technical obstacle whether you're heading up or down. Take a few moments to assess your line before attempting it, as careful planning makes all the difference. If you'd rather skip the challenge, a switchback bypass allows you to continue the trail without tackling the climb. The trail winds through beautiful wooded areas that provide plenty of shade and excellent opportunities to spot wildlife. During my trip, there were signs of deer and other animals throughout the area, making the ride even more enjoyable. Overall, this is a rewarding trail with a great mix of technical obstacles, scenic forest views, and wildlife. If you have a capable high-clearance 4x4 or SxS and enjoy rocky terrain, this trail is definitely worth adding to your list. As always, stay on designated trails, respect seasonal closures, and practice Leave No Trace by packing out everything you bring in and leaving only footprints.
