Trail Overview

This is a fun trail that offers access to several other trails in the area, such as Calamity Canyon and Kong, and it parallels Hal Johns for much of the trail. There are several spots that require careful tire placement. The trail is narrow with tight trees in many spots along the trail, so expect pinstripes. This trail has many particularly challenging spots for ATVs, UTVs and dirtbikes. There isn't a direction on this trail, but Hal Johns is typically driven north to south.

Overall this trail was pretty doable without getting too much damage HOWEVER there is a rocky section in the half way mark that has seen a lot of erosion over the years and although it would likely be passable, I was by myself and didn’t have much for recovery gear if I got stuck. On 33”s I would have very likely did some damage to my Taco, as the rocks in that section were jagged and harsh. I decided to not risk it and turned around. Anyone on less than 35”s may want to reconsider this trail unless you have some paint and metal to spare to the trail. Or bring a friend with a winch.

Surprised to see this Trail closed. Pristine conditions, but GOV knows best! Disappointed!!

There are 4 major obstacles on this trail. A 2017 Tacoma on 33s with a 1.5" lift needed to winch coming out of one. Good spotters will make this decidedly easier. There are plenty of loose rocks you can use to help build ramp ups to some of the larger edges and obstacles.

Super fun. Proper tire placement and good spoting needed in several areas. We were in a 2015 Rubicon Hard Rock. 4" lift and 35" tires. Along with the factory Rubicon skid plates added a oil and trans skid plate. We definitely used all the skid plates and certainly the rash rings on the rims. I would not run this trail with anything less then the set up we were in. It will challenge you if you are not used to this type of terrain. But would highly recommend this trail if you have a similar set up.

We were in a Jeep JT and JL. Good trail. Some difficult spots for sure but very doable. Well worth it. And it has a couple shoot offs; calamity Jane and kong

Great trail! With a break for a phone call half way, it took us roughly 2 hours from South to the North end. Dry, Dusty and Sunny! a few large rock sections. I would not take a low clearence stock vehicle.

Pretty easy trail really. I suggest you stay on the trail and out of the creek. This is stated at the beginning of the trail and we seen several folks off the trail and in the creek beds. As fun as it would be that's how you lose access to trails. FOLLOW THE RULES!

This is a serious trail! I’m on 35s, 3” lift, lockers and there are a few sections I would not attempt alone. Know your rig and your ability. Really fun trail!!!
