Trail Overview

Trail 5 - A trail of Rock Run Recreation Area. Trail 5 is an original trail to the park. At 1.5 miles in length, Trail 5 covers a variety of terrain. One end starts at Trail 4L near Turbine 8 and Clayworks Drive. The other end intersects with Coal Haul Road near Turbine 11. Trail 5 intersects with a number of various trails to include Inner Loop West, 10B, 5F, 5J, 10, 5D, Lower Saddle, and 5H. Trail 5 should be able to be traversed by most any rider on a motorcycle, ATV, or SxS. It is a variety of both embedded and loose rock, along with some potential rutting and changing conditions due to water runoff. There are tighter sections due to trees and areas that are more open. It travels through both the woods and open areas and has one section that travels through some pine trees planted as part of the former strip coal mine reclamation process. It is a one-lane wide trail with places to pass. This trail is open to bikes, ATVs, and SxSs. This is a two-way trail and offers a different experience riding it both directions. Trail driven and documented in January 2026.

The piece of Trail 5 from Coal Haul Road to Inner Loop was recently top coated with stone/slate to cover over the washboard rocks there were in this location for many years. This location is now much smoother than before.
