Trail Overview

McElhenny Trail is an out-and-back adventure in Sproul State Forest that features a number of climbs and descents, ruts, washes, and puddles. Expect vegetation to be somewhat overgrown in areas, potential puddles, and running water on the hills during wet seasons. This road will be completely unmaintained in winter. There is a cabin at the end of the trail with ample room to turn around.

Difficulty

The trail begins with a relatively steep and rutted hill climb. Towards the turnaround, there may be running water on the trail, making the ruts very muddy. Expect vegetation to be grown in tight on the trail in many areas, and no winter maintenance.

History

There is a very old log cabin hunting camp at the end of this trail, likely built in the early 1900s.
