Trail Overview
Inner Loop West - A trail of Rock Run Recreation Area. An original trail to the facility, the Inner Loop West is a fan favorite and heavily utilized. It should be able to be traversed by anyone on ATV, SxS or motorcycle with some skill. At just over 3.3 miles in length, Inner Loop West is a dirt trail with both embedded and loose rocks. You will encounter some areas of standing water, mudholes up to 8 inches deep, and potential rutting. One end of Inner Loop West starts at the main parking area near the shower house. There are multiple intersections along the entire length of the trail. Inner Loop West is on the Western side of Coal Haul Road and can be combined with Inner Loop East to create an entire loop starting and ending at one point. This trail travels both in the woods and in open meadows. It is mostly one machine wide with areas to pass, though there is a wider section for a while and is open to motorcycles, ATV and SxS’s. Inner Loop West travels past the Seldom Seen Lookout, where on the opposite hillside is the old Seldom Seen Tourist Coal Mine. A section of this trail also passes by the old clay mines, where clay was extracted to be used at the Patton Clay Works, making pipe and bricks. This is a two-way trail and offers a different experience riding it both directions. This trail is open to all vehicle types. Trail driven and documented in October 2025.
