Trail Overview

A detour off the beaten path, this route offers an escape from the main road. The route follows a cliffside of the Salmonberry Canyon and provides stunning views that, in good weather, can result in picturesque scenes of the hillsides and sheer expanse of the Coast Range. This route connects with Cochran Road to the south and Wheeler Pond Road to the north.

Difficulty

Expect a potholed typical Tillamook State Forest logging road, occasional washboard should be expected as well as logging traffic so don’t forget a CB radio.

History

This route follows the Salmonberry Canyon, which, further to the west, is one of the most rugged canyons within the Oregon Coast Range. Also, the home of an abandoned railroad that works being converted to a massive rail trail by the Salmonberry Trail foundation.
