Trail Overview

Trail 20 - Hoodraiser is an engaging 2.4-mile point-to-point descent in Oregon's Tillamook State Forest, designed for intermediate offroaders seeking a mix of dense forest scenery and moderate technical challenges. While dirt bikes might find the line relatively straightforward, drivers of full-size four-wheel-drive vehicles, ATVs, and SxSs will encounter a more demanding experience. The route features a net elevation loss of nearly 1,290 feet, dropping from a high point of 2,739 feet down to 1,448 feet. Along this wide but off-camber path, drivers must navigate slick clay, exposed tree roots, and embedded rock gardens that require careful tire placement. High-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles with larger tires are highly recommended, and having locking differentials will make negotiating the steeper, off-camber sections significantly easier. The trail is wide enough to accommodate most rig sizes without risking heavy pin-striping, though wet Pacific Northwest weather can quickly increase the difficulty by turning the dirt into slick mud. Operating within the Tillamook State Forest OHV area requires an Oregon ATV Permit, and spark arrestors are mandatory for all motorized vehicles. The trail is best run from late spring through fall when traction is optimal, though adventurous drivers tackle the route year-round to experience the shifting forest environment.

Difficulty

This would be an easy trail on a bike, however, on other ATVs and 4x4 vehicles, it would be a more difficult trail. The park rates this as Intermediate (Blue).

Did this in a Tacoma with 33’s - but you wouldn’t need a lift per se. One section I decided to engage my locker but with a little more pedal I probably wouldn’t have needed to. Super fun, mellow trail. There is one section that could send you into a deep rut but it was easy to straddle. Lot of mud & water when we went but no issues with that.
