Trail Overview
Tipton to South Fork is an outstanding forest-road route perfect for SxSs, ATVs, dirt bikes, and high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles looking to explore the scenic heart of the Blue Mountains. This trail winds along established Forest Service roads, offering spectacular, wide-open views into the Burnt River Valley and the John Day Basin. As drivers traverse the route, the dramatic peaks of the Strawberry Mountains and the Elk Horns frame the horizon, creating a picturesque backdrop. The trail passes near the pristine Monument Rock Wilderness and Table Rock Lookout, providing ample opportunities to appreciate the remote Oregon backcountry.
Boasting a moderate technical rating, the trail primarily consists of unpaved forest service roads that can present challenges such as washouts, loose gravel, and potential tree hazards due to recent forest fires. Drivers should be prepared for unmaintained sections where choosing the right line is essential, particularly after seasonal storms.
