Trail Overview
Old Mill is a 1.2-mile point-to-point trail with a dirt surface and several rougher sections featuring large embedded rock. A couple of steep climbs are present along the route, including a steeper section near the middle of the trail with loose dirt that can make traction inconsistent, and a tight switchback that can challenge vehicles with longer wheelbases. An Oregon State ATV operating permit is required for all vehicles within the Mount Emily Recreation Area. The trail is open year-round; however, management requests that trails not be used when mud sticks to tires.
Difficulty
Old Mill is moderately challenging due to its steep sections, loose dirt, and large embedded rock. The steep climb near the middle of the trail can become slick and reduce traction, particularly for less experienced riders or smaller machines. While most obstacles are manageable, the uneven terrain can make line choice important in a few spots. Although legally accessible by larger 4x4s, the tight switchback may be challenging for long wheelbases. Conditions become significantly more difficult when wet, and riders should avoid using the trail when mud sticks to tires.
