Trail Overview

As you travel this road, you will pass through multiple private timberlands and BLM and you will be met with beautiful views, wildlife (if lucky), bicyclists, and vehicles. This crosses paths with the Banks-Vernonia trail as well. Be on the lookout for log trucks and keep an eye out for pull-outs--there can be logging up there anytime. This is good for any kind of drive and is the first section to get to Gunners Lake. At the end of this section, the road name changes to Hershey Road. If traveling during wintertime, be prepared for deep snow. There are also potholes throughout.

Not a trail, just a road leading deeper into the forest are where timber removal continues. Large rock covers most of the road, some washboards underneath. Trail difficulty is a 0.

Easy wide trail. Snowing up top but nothing crazy. Lots of smaller side roads.

Lots of deeper ruts and mud off the side of the main road. Mostly crushed gravel on main trail but several sections of bed rock made it pretty bumpy. Higher clearance 2 wheel drive would be fine on main area. Higher clearance 4x4 needed on a lot of the side roads.

There is a road closed sign posted at the intersection of bacona and Sherman mill road. This sign indicates that Sherman mill road is closed and not bacona. We rode clear from buxton to scapoose and there were no closures.
