Trail Overview
Corporation Road South is a 7.4-mile out-and-back route due to a large washout that has rendered the road impassable to most vehicles and prevents through travel to Pendleton. The route descends 2000 feet into a canyon before following a creek, with a sharp shale rock surface that can be rough on vehicles, along with narrow and brushy sections in places. Several creek access points and dispersed camping opportunities are present along the route. Corporation Road South is open year-round. The route is marked as closed to OHVs on older maps, though this designation may predate the washout.
Difficulty
Corporation Road South is best suited for high-clearance vehicles, as the sharp shale surface, narrow sections, and rough conditions can be hard on tires and suspension. The primary challenges include loose, jagged rock and uneven terrain. Weather conditions such as rain or snow can increase difficulty. As with most trails in the area, bringing a chainsaw or equipment to clear fallen trees is recommended.
