Trail Overview
Welcome to Cline Buttes OHV Trail 27, a highly convenient and heavily utilized access route that stretches from the main OHV play area to the far western boundary of the trail system. This mostly wide, double-track dirt road primarily follows a prominent set of large wooden powerline poles, guiding you gently through a beautiful high-desert landscape dotted with green juniper trees. Along the journey, you will encounter long, relaxing stretches of flat, compacted sand interrupted by fun, small rolling whoops that add a delightful bit of character to the drive. Keep a close eye on your navigation, as there is one distinctly mislabeled left turn along the route; however, the correct path continues slightly further up and is wonderfully obvious. As you cruise toward the western edge and catch brief glimpses of snow-capped mountains on the horizon, the trail eventually terminates at a clearly marked "Horse Only" sign, indicating the definitive end of the motorized vehicle segment.
Difficulty
We assign a very comfortable difficulty rating of 2 out of 10 for this primarily flat and sandy route. For the vast majority of the drive, the terrain is exceptionally mellow, compacted, and easy to navigate. However, drivers will occasionally encounter distinct, cobblestone-style rock gardens filled with loose and embedded bowling ball-sized stones. These rocky patches require adequate ground clearance to avoid painfully scraping vital undercarriage components, though four-wheel drive traction is typically not necessary. By simply reducing your speed and carefully picking a smooth line over the protruding rocks, your suspension will handle the uneven terrain, allowing you to easily conquer these brief, bumpy sections.
