Trail Overview
Cline Buttes Off Highway Vehicle Trail 41 is a scenic, blue-rated double-track route. The journey primarily features a mostly flat and winding path of compact sand that gently meanders through a dense, fragrant canopy of tight juniper trees. While much of the drive is smooth, the trail is frequently peppered with scattered loose rocks and occasional rocky ledges that disrupt the sandy flow. The most significant navigational challenge occurs where this route intersects with Trail 34, a black-rated rock crawling trail. This specific junction can be quite confusing and difficult to navigate, as the paths heavily mix. It is incredibly easy to lose the main trail in this section, so keep a sharp eye out for the designated markers and utilize the obvious alternative routes scattered around the perimeter to avoid the most aggressive terrain.
Difficulty
This route requires a mindful approach, especially regarding undercarriage clearance. While the majority of the trail is a flat, easily manageable sandy double-track, the scattered 12-inch boulders and large rock ledges near the Trail 34 intersection present a genuine hazard. To successfully navigate this terrain without bottoming out, you must actively scan the path ahead and utilize the obvious, smoother alternative lines that completely bypass the most severe rock obstacles. If you must drive over the scattered rocks, intentionally place your tires directly on the highest points of the stones to preserve your ground clearance and maintain a smooth, steady momentum.
