Trail Overview
This is a short, but scenic and fun single track through the Umpqua National Forest that has spectacular views of multiple alpine lakes. The north end starts at the picnic tables at Calamut Lake at the intersection with the ATV trail. The narrow dirt single track gradually descends south for 1.5 miles as it winds through a dense forest of hemlocks, firs, and pines. Expect typical forest terrain such as mud and shallow ruts, roots, and small rocks, but the trail is mostly easy, fast, and flowy. Log hazards are typical in this terrain – they can be diagonal, off-camber, and slick. However, there were many previously cut logs, and it looks like the logs on this trail will eventually get cleared. There were several large logs down over the trail in the early season. Near the south end of the trail, you get multiple alpine lake views while riding, first of Lake Charline, then of Lake Patricia. The trail ends at Lake Patricia at a camp spot at the end of FS road 6000740, which makes a fantastic spot to take a lunch break.
Difficulty
This is an intermediate trail due to several large logs, mild side-hilling, and typical forest terrain such as roots and rocks. It is ideal for riders with some basic single-track experience in the alpine. New log hazards should be expected.
