Trail Overview
Accessed directly from the pavement of Forest Road 11, Bills Road - FS 1100855 is a secluded 2.1-mile out-and-back spur carved neatly into the mountainside within a lush, densely timbered National Forest. Outdoor explorers and sightseers utilize this quiet woodland detour to escape the main paved routes and immerse themselves in the serene, shaded alpine environment. The journey begins as a flat, easy-to-follow track, but the character of the road shifts as it pushes higher, progressively becoming less traveled and noticeably more overgrown. Ultimately, heavy encroaching brush and a cluster of downed trees completely barricade the upper elevations, making further forward progress impossible and requiring a safe turnaround to exit the forest.
Difficulty
This out-and-back forest spur features a relatively flat, hard-packed gravel foundation completely devoid of severe technical off-road challenges. Deep mud bogs, intimidating rock crawls, and steep, perilous drop-offs are absent from the drive. However, travelers must remain alert to carefully steer around minor rain ruts, scattered branches, and small fallen trees dotting the corridor. A couple of segments feature mildly exposed rock that adds a bit of texture to the ride without requiring specialized equipment. The primary non-technical obstacles are the increasingly heavy vegetation encountered in the upper sections and the final, impenetrable barricade of downed timber that forces a U-turn before the track officially ends.
