Trail Overview
This well-maintained trail winds along the mountain, alternating between sections carved into the mountainside and sections that follow the ridge. Although the road often appears dry, some areas remain wet underneath and can be surprisingly slippery, so use caution and avoid traveling at high speeds. Because the route hugs the mountainside and includes ridge sections with drop-offs, drive with extra care. Vegetation along the edges can obscure the drop-offs, so remain alert and maintain a safe speed. The trail generally descends in one direction, meaning you will need to climb back up on the return trip. The trail is generally easy to navigate, but the upper sections become somewhat rockier, with some rockfall along the route. Several places along the route allow you to turn around, park, or set up dispersed camp, including a large camping area. The trail ends where indicated at a series of large sand berms. The berms are overgrown, and no viable route continues beyond them. The area shows little evidence of recent travel, so do not attempt to continue past the established endpoint. This area is open year-round on gravel roads. However, travel on dirt roads is restricted during wet conditions, which typically occur from October 1. OHV use is prohibited where vegetation is present on the road during fire season, typically June through October. ATVs, UTVs, Side-by-Sides, and Dirt Bikes must always have a valid Oregon ATV Operating Permit sticker.
Difficulty
The trail is generally easy, with slippery sections, rockier terrain, and drop-offs requiring extra attention.
