Trail Overview

This 22.8-mile point-to-point route offers a mild drive through historic Appalachian railway landmarks in Vinton County. Starting in Wilkesville, the route travels north through forested hills, connecting to the historic Moonville and Kings Hollow tunnels. The unpaved route is suitable for most stock high-clearance vehicles and dual-sport bikes, though drivers should expect occasional steep hill climbs and soft shoulders. The dirt and gravel path has a maximum elevation of 870 feet and 1,875 feet of elevation gain. Winding through the Appalachian foothills along repurposed railroad corridors, the route concludes at the Lake Hope State Park Lodge, with dining and fuel options available along the corridor.
