Trail Overview

This is one of the easier trails to run in what has become known as the Tar Hollow Trails of Vinton & Hocking County. This trail is not maintained and is rutted with a few mud holes. It is a good connector to take if you wish to minimize the amount of main road/pavement when running other trails in the area. This is one of a few trails in the area that a stock 4WD can take if careful.

Difficulty

A minimum of 33-inch tires, a 2-inch lift, and a winch is recommended, but a stock 4WD can run this trail with careful wheel placement. It is a mainly rutted dirt road with a few mud holes. Depending on the season, some mud holes can be 12+ inches deep.

Someone has played in it recently, making the beginning of the trail a lot harder. Got stuck right in the beginning cause apparently my 4WD wasn’t working correctly. Eventually got out, but the beginning hole is a little scary but if done right isn’t threatening. But it is now unavoidable almost. When you first get on the trail, 30 seconds in there’s the hole. The rest is the trail is no where near as bad as the beginning. It’s muddy as of now but still open and made it all the way through in 2WD with almost no clearance.

Pretty clear, no tree down anymore from one of the previous pictures. Water crossings were relatively low, especially after getting rain the last couple days. Great little beginner trail to start to know what to except for getting in the off-roading scene. Really nice area to visit, like a hidden gem.
