Trail Overview
Located on the northern rim of the Linville Gorge Wilderness, Wiseman’s View Road (Forest Service Road 458) winds through Pisgah National Forest to a scenic parking area that provides access to one of North Carolina’s most iconic overlooks. Just a short, easy walk from the parking lot, which does offer van-accessible parking for wheelchairs, leads to a series of stone observation platforms perched high above the gorge. Visitors are rewarded with sweeping panoramic views of the rugged Linville River, towering rock cliffs, and the distinctive peaks of Table Rock and Hawksbill Mountain, often described as the "Grand Canyon of the East".
Difficulty
This trail is primarily flat with generally even terrain, making it suitable for most passenger vehicles under normal conditions. The roadway is wide enough in most areas to allow oncoming traffic to pass safely without difficulty. However, during rainy months or after extended periods of heavy precipitation, sections of the trail may become muddy, rutted, or covered with standing water.
