Trail Overview
Roseboro Gragg is a rugged, narrow offshoot from Edgemont Road that offers a slightly more challenging drive compared to other trails in the area. The trail is generally manageable for most vehicles with moderate ground clearance, but caution is recommended due to a handful of small ruts, potholes, and minor washouts scattered along the route. The deepest wash is around 6 inches and can typically be bypassed with careful driving. About halfway through the trail, a large open area offers ample space for camping and serves as a base for exploring several hiking trails that branch off nearby. Unfortunately, the trail's end has been closed due to a significant washout caused by Hurricane Helene in late 2024. The closure is well marked, but drivers should exercise caution when approaching the damaged area. Despite the closure, the accessible portion of the trail provides a scenic and adventurous drive through the forest.
Difficulty
The trail is slightly more challenging than others in the area, but it remains relatively easy overall. The most difficult obstacle is a small 6-inch-deep wash caused by previous storms. In addition to the wash, there are a few minor potholes and ruts scattered throughout the trail.
History
This area--and this trail in particular--was severely impacted by Hurricane Helene in late 2024. A significant washout caused by the storm has led to the closure of the road approximately halfway through. Although the closure is fairly well marked, extreme caution should still be taken when approaching the washout.
