Trail Overview

Rackett Branch Road is an out-and-back trail that is well maintained but features larger, loosely packed gravel stones throughout much of the route. The larger gravel can make vehicles feel unstable, especially since the majority of the trail consists of a steady ascent toward the summit. Drivers should use caution and maintain a controlled speed when navigating the loose surface. At the summit, users gain access to Pisgah Game Lands as well as hiking opportunities leading toward Tough Hill, which reaches an elevation of approximately 2,188 feet. Aside from the loose and larger-than-average gravel, the trail is free of major obstacles. Due to the steep ascent and loose surface, AWD and 4WD vehicles are recommended. As with many routes in this area, users can also expect to encounter scenic views of the surrounding mountainous terrain along the trail.
