Trail Overview
Governor Road is a scenic through trail that begins shortly after the pavement ends and takes users onto a beautiful, well-maintained mixture of sand and dirt. The main trail is wide, smooth, and free from major obstacles or obstructions, making it suitable for most vehicles during normal conditions. Users should use caution near the shoulders, however, as several mud holes are present just outside the primary travel surface and may be considerably softer than they appear. Approximately halfway through the trail, users will cross a bridge overlooking a picturesque coastal swamp. Here, dark but clean water winds beneath trees draped in Spanish moss, creating one of the more scenic stops along the route. Governor Road combines an easy drive with classic coastal scenery and serves as an enjoyable addition to the surrounding trail network.
