Trail Overview

This seasonal road winds through private timberland and offers travelers a mix of terrain, from compact gravel stretches to loose sand and dirt sections. Although the road is generally well-maintained, conditions can vary depending on recent weather and logging activity. The land along the entire route is owned and actively managed by a timber company, so expect to encounter industrial vehicles and logging trucks throughout the season. Traffic is common, but there are numerous wide spots and pull-outs that make it easy to let other vehicles pass. Drivers should remain alert, drive cautiously, and be prepared for changing surface conditions. This route offers a remote, scenic experience—but also requires respect for the working forest it traverses.

Difficulty

This is a classic Southern Adirondack forest road, offering the remote, wooded character typical of the region. While travelers won’t encounter any river or stream fords along the way, there are several one-lane bridges that require slow speeds and caution. Approach each bridge carefully and yield as needed to oncoming traffic. As this road serves active timber operations, always stay aware of your surroundings. Logging trucks and heavy equipment may enter or exit the route at any time, and visibility can be limited around bends or in densely wooded sections. Maintain a safe speed, keep to your lane, and use pull-off areas whenever necessary to allow larger vehicles to pass.

mildly steep climbs, lots of dust, rocky. Some pull off areas for camping or breaks, a couple more technical optional areas but nothing crazy. Trails ends at spruce lake hiking trail with plenty of room for a turn around.
