Trail Overview
This easy dirt two-track winds through heavily wooded forest, opening up occasionally into small meadows with plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife. The surface is mostly smooth, with only a few potholes along the way, though puddles can fill with water after rain and make conditions more challenging. There are several roadside dispersed camp spots throughout the route, making it a great option for a quiet overnight stay. The trail ends at a large parking area on the edge of Essex Chain Lakes Primitive Area. There is a pit toilet and a gate, where you can continue on foot to access the water in the Primitive Area.
Difficulty
This trail is rated 2/10 due to the mostly easy dirt surface with minor potholes and occasional muddy puddles after rain. Most vehicles can navigate it comfortably in dry conditions, though drivers should be prepared for changing conditions during wet weather.
