Trail Overview
ATV Trail #967 is a 2.7-mile-long moderate route that has a steep and rocky downhill that is better suited for more intermediate riders. The trail is easy from the northern entrance, easily accessible from North Star Road, but it quickly becomes covered in a loose layer of baby head rocks. The trail becomes steeper as you approach the southern end. It has shallow ruts filled in with rocks and quick curves as it descends off the hillside from north to south, dropping over 700 feet in elevation. The trail remains wide, and there aren’t any major rock ledges; it’s just very loose and steep for the last mile of the trail. The south end is accessed through a rocky wash trail (Mimbres River) that requires several shallow rocky water crossings.
Difficulty
This trail is more suited to intermediate riders due to the majority of the trail being rocky and steep. There aren’t any major rock obstacles, but riders need to be comfortable with hill climbing/descending in loose terrain. You will go downhill in the north-to-south direction, and it will be a bit more difficult going uphill from south to north.
