Trail Overview

North Rim to Valle Verde covers FSR-124H, FSR-324HF, and a short section of FSR-324HH before intersecting FSR-325H. This route has a primarily dirt surface with some short areas of rocks. The trail is extremely tight in some areas with trees and other brush impeding over the single-vehicle-wide two-track trail that will result in unavoidable trail rash. There are several areas where ruts exceed 18 inches in depth and many sections that are heavily off-camber in excess of 12 degrees of roll. After rain or snow, the area becomes very muddy in some sections, with the deeper ruts holding water. The terrain opens up towards the end giving open views of the surrounding plains and occasional glimpses of the mountains in the distance. Dispersed camping is permitted through the first 5.5 miles and offers a variety of secluded and wide-open camping areas. Cell service is strong for the first 3.5 miles before it begins to become weaker or non-existent. Be aware of the spurs off the main trail, many of them are decommissioned routes and are not legal for public use. Be sure to download offline maps and stick to the main trail route.

Difficulty

The trail features several sections of deeper ruts in excess of 18 inches, standing water, and muddy sections. There are several areas where the rutting and erosion have caused off-camber sections that result in 12 degrees of roll or more. Taller or top-heavy vehicles should be aware of these roll angles and proceed carefully. Additionally, the tighter trees and overgrowth will cause trail rash, it's unavoidable in most of these sections.
