Trail Overview

This route is rocky in some areas and has other areas with deep ruts and slick, sticky mud with any type of moisture. It travels through private property before entering the Carson Forest. The route gradually climbs out of Diablo Canyon and levels out with gorgeous views of the Manzano Mountains.

History

At the head of Tajique Canyon is the largest stand of Rocky Mountain large tooth maples in New Mexico. The fall colors are spectacular.

Trail was fun. Stock Gladiator did well. Many rocks and muddy ruts throughout the trail. Close to 4th of July Campground they were filling ruts with gravel.

Had a great ride. A fun trail, kinda rocky, kinda dirt but not muddy even after some rain just a few days ago. I rode from north to south. Saw two hunters, two turkeys, two squirrels. No other riders until the very end.

Trail was deeply rutted and had a good many deep mud holes, it was definitely a challenge, I played the bike down twice wrestling through the ruts and loose cobble size rocks. There was a lot of wildlife, saw my first living grey fox and a mamma turkey with 7 chicks running alongside the road. I rode a R.E. Himalayan 411 through, so a heavy ADV bike not a dirt bike.
