Trail Overview
This is a short ATV trail through the Santa Fe National Forest that follows a dirt two-track between ponderosa pines in a dry and sparse forest environment. The track is mostly gradual, with a bit of embedded rock slabs, shallow ruts, and loose rock. It is faint in spots and lightly trafficked. It goes around the edge of the Eureka Mesa, with great views off the edge of the mesa. Near the east end, there is a viewpoint where you can walk a few feet towards the edge of the mesa off the trail to get a really great view of a rock outcropping and the whole valley. The whole trail is unmarked, except for a sign at the west end saying entering Fuelwood Area. It is easy to follow, but an offline map is helpful out here as well.
Difficulty
Overall, this is an easy trail because it has no major obstacles, and is mostly smooth dirt and a gradual slope for the entire mile route. It is ideal for younger or less experienced riders.
