Trail Overview

This track takes you to two very good camping spots. Godfrey Bridge has several camp spots and pit toilets. Hawkins Bridge to the north has some large group camps, but be aware you will need to carry all your gear in as you can't park in the group sites. There are also a few individual sites where you can park next to your tent. There are also pit toilets available. Be sure to bring water as there is no potable water in the Wharton State Forest. The trails through Wharton SF are generally easy, however, the mud pits can be deep enough to put your rig on the frame. That being said, if you see a bypass, take it. Camping can be reserved in the Wharton SF online (https://nj.gov/dep/parksandforests/parks/whartonstateforest.html) or at the Batsto Park office. This trail should be fine for all rigs. Be aware that many of the other trails in Wharton SF are narrow and you will get pinstripes.

Difficulty

The areas covered with water can be deceptive; they range from a few inches to more than 3 feet deep. If you see a bypass, you should likely take it.

Took this trail on my way out of the forest, man what a tight trail. Definitely going to get brush swipes to mirrors and doors. Mud holes are the deepest here than anywhere else I drove that day but there are bypasses for almost all of them.

Very tight trail at times. Expect to get scratches from trees that have overgrown on the side of the trail. It was pretty dry and IMO wasn’t terribly difficult. We had some nice areas that weren’t overgrown, but there were a few times we definitely had branches smacking the vehicle. I’m driving a large Bronco, and the other person we saw was a dirt bike.

This was a tight trail, and for my first time off-roading it was a bit challenging. There were tons of mud pits but I’d say 75% of them (the hardest ones) had areas to pull around them. But it was a bit nerve wracking because there were a couple big ones that you were forced to go through. Got through the trail with a jeep wrangler but definitely don’t come on this one unless you’re confident, or if it’s been dry for a while.
