Trail Overview
Hubbard Brook Road is a well-maintained U.S. Forest Service road located in the southwestern section of New Hampshire's White Mountain National Forest. Conveniently accessed from Interstate 93, this route offers a quiet, scenic drive that sees far less traffic than many of the forest's main corridors. Following the course of Hubbard Brook westward, the road steadily climbs roughly 1,100 feet in elevation, winding through a valley framed by Mount Kineo and East Kineo to the south and Mount Cushman and Green Mountain to the north. Along the way, travelers can access several lightly used hiking trailheads, explore the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, and enjoy peaceful views of the surrounding woodland. This is an out-and-back road that is generally open to passenger vehicles during the warmer months but is closed seasonally, typically in late fall through mud season. Its combination of reliable maintenance, natural beauty, and relative solitude makes Hubbard Brook Road a rewarding alternative to more heavily traveled routes in the White Mountains.
