Trail Overview
Tripoli Road is a well-maintained forest road that connects the Town of Waterville Valley to Thornton via a pass between Mt. Tecumseh and Mt. Osceola. This road is easily passable by any vehicle and is a popular road for access to hiking trails on Mt. Tecumseh and Mt. Osceola, as well as numerous camp sites along the road (fee required). There is a lot of bear and moose activity on this road, so be very careful, especially at night. This road is a great option for those wanting to get off the main highways and explore deeper into the White Mountain National Forest. This road can be run in either direction. There is no cell service in the middle portions of the road.
History
Tripoli Road in New Hampshire is a historic, mostly unpaved road that connects Waterville Valley and Thornton/Woodstock. It was built by the US Forest Service in 1934, with assistance from the Civilian Conservation Corps, and named after the Tripoli Mill that once operated in the area.
