Trail Overview

This is a well-traveled gravel road. On the south end of the route, the road curves around a sand dune that can cover up the trail at times. Many of the caves on this end are overhanging. The major site is a tufa dome that is named Nicolarsen which is located near Highway 447.

Difficulty

Much of the road is well traveled. The sand dunes may need to be skirted to continue the ride.

Pretty easy trail. Very dusty, very washboarded. Getting pretty hot out there too. Only saw one other group of guys, 3 cars together. Missed the caves on the way in but saw them on the way out. Did not make it up to see them, but will go back again to check them out.

Trails seemed well maintained with some offshoots off the highway. Once on the main trail to the caves/mines, mostly smooth and mildly washboarded with some small sections where you have to watch ahead.
