Trail Overview

Telephone Canyon Road connects highway 157 (Kyle Canyon) to 158 (Deer Creek Road). It is a 2-track trail that runs up a canyon wash in the forest and can shift with heavy rains. The trail surface is mostly loose gravel and rock. In the winter, it can have deep snow. There are some wash crossings with drops in places. It is a wooded canyon with many trees encroaching on the trail, so wide vehicles will likely hit branches. The West end (top) abruptly enters Deer Creek Road on a blind corner. Deer Creek Road is busy, so be careful when exiting at the west end of this trail for cars, bicyclers, and joggers. There are many mountain bike trails in this area, and it is not uncommon to find mountain bikers, horse riders, and hikers on this trail too.

While the views are minimal, because of the trees, wandering up a creek bed and wandering through a forest is very nice! It is a narrow trail, but my 4 dr Bronco didn’t have any issues. A little brush rubbing, but no pinstripes. The hard parts are the berms in and out of the creek bed. I didn’t need to use my lockers, but 4WD was needed.

This trail need a new rating easy for someone that’s experienced with off roading. Wouldn’t recommend for someone new. In a stock 2020 jeep wrangler Rubicon four-door. And it was really tight for me but not bad definitely manageable. And good tire placement some spots have the potential of rolling over. Also some fallen trees are laying on the trail but you can get around them.
