Trail Overview

Tamarisk Road is an easy, scenic 2.5-mile route in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area that is perfect for beginners, four-wheel-drive vehicles, and SxSs looking for a direct path to the shores of Lake Mohave. Branching east off the Mead-Davis Powerline Road, this trail descends just over 660 feet from an elevation of 1,316 feet down to 652 feet at the water's edge. The terrain consists primarily of unpaved dirt and loose sand, which can become challenging in deeper sections, making four-wheel-drive highly recommended. As a limited-use area, offroad travel is strictly restricted to designated routes, and camping is permitted only in approved areas, including a small beachside camping spot at the end of the road. Because the trail winds through desert washes, it is highly prone to flash floods during the rainy season, so travelers should check weather forecasts and avoid the route during inclement weather. Those who make the trip are rewarded with sweeping views of the Colorado River reservoir and access to a secluded shoreline perfect for relaxing.

Sandy in sections, the possibility for water crossing and mud. Advised not to do this road in bad weather, as you can find yourself in a flash flood.

More wash boarding on the way out. Trail is good and fast was doing 15 to 25 even in washboard areas.

Went for a day on the water. It was a ghost town, only one other car came. Super private, great day trip. I will definitely be back.

It was a super easy trail, very well graded. Speeds on Tamarisk and on power line road were around 20 to 25 mph. There were a few really bad washboard areas but it’s quick less than a mile in each spot. At the beach there is a little deep sand but the rock areas are solid. Great day spot to relax.
