Trail Overview

Sand Mine Road 110 begins just off the highway and is a popular access point for snowbirds and visitors heading to Valley of Fire State Park, thanks to its designation as a dispersed camping area with a 14-day camp limit. This section offers numerous flat, open spaces ideal for larger rigs, with many offshoot trails providing options for exploration and spreading out comfortably. As you continue past the camping areas, the views become increasingly scenic as the trail transitions into a narrow path that follows a shelf road down into the valley below. This segment leads you away from BLM land and toward the valley floor, where the landscape changes dramatically. Upon entering Lake Mead land, remember that camping is no longer permitted past the boundary. While descending to the valley floor, you'll notice many tailing piles scattered throughout the canyon, remnants of the area's mining history. The trail culminates at a fence with a decent turnaround loop, providing a convenient endpoint for your journey. Important Note: Cell service is initially full, but expect it to fade to one bar of LTE as you reach the trail's end. As always, download your offline maps before your trip and come prepared with sufficient water and supplies for your desert adventure.
