Trail Overview
Mormon Mesa Southeast Rim offers a rugged adventure along the lower, even more remote side of the rim, traversing the eastern edge. This trail winds intermittently close to the rim, providing stunning views of the Virgin River Valley and the Virgin Mountains, offering a breathtaking backdrop as you navigate the terrain. If you're looking for a place to camp along the side of the rim, plenty of early spots closer to the Main road are available for a convenient and scenic overnight stay. As you traverse the trail, you'll encounter sections of rocks and boulders--some about the size of doll heads--requiring careful navigation as you progress. Airing down your tires is highly recommended for added comfort over the rocky terrain. Stunning vistas await at the southernmost tip of the trail, overlooking the expansive Virgin River Valley, Muddy Basin, Valley of Fire, and the off in the distant Lake Mead. Important Note: This area is located within a critical habitat for the desert tortoise, an endangered species. While exploring, be sure to watch for them on the trail. Avoid disturbing any wildlife you may encounter. Cell service is reliable along the trail, typically providing about three bars of LTE, making it easy to stay connected during your adventure. Always prepare adequately for your desert journey with ample water and supplies.
