Trail Overview
Lower Wheeler Wash is an inviting, scenic desert trail near Pahrump, Nevada, that offers offroaders an easy but highly rewarding journey through striking canyons and unique geologic features. Starting from Wheeler Pass Road and heading southeast on North Wheeler Road, the route covers about 4.2 miles with a gentle climb of 846 feet from an elevation of 3,446 feet up to 4,282 feet. The terrain transitions into a wide, meandering dry wash basin comprised of loose gravel and sand, making it perfect for high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, and dirt bikes looking for a relaxed cruise. The route maintains a highly approachable technical rating of 2, featuring a mostly level surface with plenty of room for vehicles to pass each other safely.
As the trail winds northeast on Wheeler Wash Road, it enters beautiful, narrow box canyons with impressive rock formations towering on both sides. Drivers can enjoy the stunning Mojave Desert scenery before the drivable route terminates at a tight, rocky passage that serves as the connection point to Upper Wheeler Wash. This final section narrows significantly, rendering it impassable for full-size four-wheel-drive vehicles and SxSs, though it remains a popular connection for dirt bikes and hikers wanting to explore further up the wash.
