Trail Overview
Lower Pond Road is an easy, scenic 6.3-mile two-track trail ideal for beginners, overland rigs, and SxSs looking for a relaxed drive with expansive valley views. Cutting across the higher side of a dry lake bed, this route serves as an excellent alternative during wet weather when the lower lake bed becomes slick and impassable. The trail features a smooth, well-graded dirt surface lined with long grasses and open rangeland. Ranging in elevation from 4,774 to 4,974 feet, the route gently winds through a wide-open valley that offers panoramic vistas in every direction and leads to a large livestock watering tank where cattle frequently graze.
With a technical rating of 2, this trail is highly accessible for most high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, though drivers should remain alert for occasional potholes and narrow sections where passing oncoming traffic requires caution.
