Trail Overview
This short connector route runs high along a ridgeline bordering the designated wilderness area, winding its way through manzanita bushes and dense Aspen groves. This trail is primarily a rocky shelf road; it links the main Ruby Crest Trailhead route to the Green Mountain Trail and provides vital access to the Ruby Crest National Recreation Hiking Trail. Although the bumpy terrain keeps speeds low, the elevated vantage point rewards drivers with outstanding, unobstructed views of the rugged mountain range and the sweeping valley to the south. Full-size rigs and vehicles with long wheelbases may have significant difficulty maneuvering through the tight, boulder-strewn corners. There is absolutely zero cell phone service on this trail. Downloading offline maps is recommended before heading into this area.
Difficulty
This route features, narrow sections where driving over boulders is required. Careful navigation is needed through tight corners littered with rocks and slight downhill, off-camber sections. Long-wheelbase vehicles may struggle with these tight turns, and the rugged terrain presents a notable risk of sidewall tire damage. Many sections of this trail act as a shelf road.
