Trail Overview

This out and back trail has great views of the city and surrounding mountains. Most of the trail is wide enough for two vehicles to pass. Very little in terms of obstacles, but still a great day trip to explore the mines and caves along the trails. At the end you are greeted with an incredible view of Las Vegas.

Great trail! Not too busy, but it’s pretty tight — only wide enough for one vehicle. It’s an out-and-back route.

Initial part of trail is very washboard but tolerable with aired down tires. General trail surface is loose gravel, but trail gets narrower and more uneven as you continue. Longer wheelbase vehicles might experience some underbody scraping in a few areas, but overall a chill trail with great views. Few other places where you can be all alone out in the desert with just a mountain in between you and 1.5 million other people.

First major trail to drive on since I bought my truck. We started from the Corn Creek visitor center and went north to south. The trail is ok from Mormon Wells up to the Gas Peak parking area. We continued past the parking area and that where the road narrows. There are also a couple rough spots where you will need to take it slow. There were also two spots where we ended up at a decent bank angle. At the end you are treated to a nice view of the city, but it was hazy when we went. Took us about an hour and a half out and another hour and a half back.

It may be difficult to access this trail from the south (i.e., the north part of town). I tried to navigate using this app to the southern end of the trail, but the road was blocked by a gate to an Air Force bombing range. Another attempt ended in failure because concrete barriers blocked the access trail. Finally, I had to drive 30 minutes away to main entrance to the wildlife refuge to gain access. It was worth it because the views are spectacular.

Went from South-North. Beautiful scenery. Can get narrow at times so my baby got some minor battle scars. Connects to Mormon Well. Picked up some speed and had great fun! Newbies friendly!

Nice trail especially for beginners, some rough spots so clearance is needed in some areas. Rangers said this trail is usually a little rougher than some others in the area but the views are worth it

You need to deflate your tires for this trail or you are going to have a sore back next day. The trail is manageable on a stock Subaru Outback Wilderness without engaging X-Mode. There are beautiful views from up here; however, if you do decide to continue after Gass Peak do know that the vegetation obstructs a bit of the road so you will pay with paint scratches. All in all it was fun and not technical at all.

We drove from Corn Creek Visitor Center off Hwy 95 to the Gass Peak Road . First time Off Roading in our Discovery. Was easy drive with mostly Gravel Roads . Scenery was nice once we got 5-6 miles in . Sign at start of Gass Peak said no outlet so we stopped at small parking area about half way so roughly 8 miles in. We had some lunch and enjoyed views of Gass Peak Mountain before heading back. Only passed a few other cars . So very private. Good introduction to off roading.
